Biswajit Choudhury is a capital markets, regulatory and investment professional with over three decades of experience spanning India and the GCC countries. His career encompasses securities regulation, investment management, market infrastructure, regulatory and governance risk management, investigation and enforcement, financial-sector policy and institutional transformation, with senior roles at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Oman’s Financial Services Authority and also as Consultant for the Government of India.

During his tenure at SEBI, he worked across the Primary Market, Mutual Funds and Investigation & Enforcement functions, gaining a comprehensive understanding of India's securities markets and their regulatory architecture. His work covered market supervision, mutual funds and asset management, surveillance, investor protection, investigation and enforcement. He led complex investigations involving market manipulation, insider trading, front-running, fraudulent issuances and other securities-law violations, and was involved in several significant enforcement matters. He also contributed to SEBI's corporate governance initiatives and represented the organisation in OECD work relating to related-party transactions. Earlier, in the Mutual Funds Department, he was closely involved in the regulatory response to the UTI/US-64 episode and the subsequent restructuring.

He subsequently spent several years as an adviser to Oman’s capital markets regulator, where he played a central role in the transformation and modernisation of the country's financial-market ecosystem. His work encompassed securities law, market infrastructure, governance, surveillance, risk-based supervision and risk management, AML/CFT, IPO reform and digital transformation. He was instrumental in drafting Oman's new Securities Law, restructuring the governance of the stock exchange and securities depository, modernising the IPO process and establishing the regulatory architecture for AML/CFT. He worked closely with the Central Bank of Oman and the Government in preparing the financial sector for the MENA-FATF assessment, and also led an early regulatory study on virtual assets. His work on an XBRL-based supervisory and analytical platform subsequently received international recognition through a UN WSIS Award. He was also engaged with PwC, Qatar to redesign the surveillance framework for the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority.

As Consultant to the joint programme of the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and the Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management (AJNIFM), he advised on capital-market regulation, regulatory governance and financial-sector reform. His work included regulatory impact assessments, examination of regulatory architecture across the financial sector, Market Infrastructure Institution governance, settlement reform, derivatives, mutual funds, AIFs and PMS, as well as investor protection and ease-of-doing-business initiatives. He reviewed regulatory proposals and consultation papers across a wide range of emerging issues and contributed to studies examining retail participation, behaviour and profitability in derivatives markets.

He is currently Founder & Head of Strategy at FinTrend+, where he is developing an AI-driven mutual fund analytics and distribution platform focused on investment research, fund selection, portfolio strategy, behavioural risk and investor suitability. His professional interests also include market microstructure, derivatives trading, investment strategy and the application of analytics and technology to financial markets.

Over the course of his career, he has worked with and alongside institutions including the World Bank, US Securities and Exchange Commission, OECD, Asian Development Bank and other international financial-market institutions. His work has consistently involved identifying and addressing regulatory, governance and institutional risks, strengthening supervisory and control frameworks, and translating complex regulatory and market challenges into practical frameworks, institutional reforms and implementable solutions.

Biswajit is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) from ICFAI, Financial Risk Manager (FRM) from GARP, and a PRINCE2 Certified Practitioner. He graduated First in the University in B.Com. (Honours) from the University of North Bengal and was awarded both the University Medal and the Late Padmadevi Medal.
